Kyari Charges NAPE, Upstream Players To Adopt Digital Approaches In Exploration Activities

The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), Mele Kyari has tasked Nigeria  Association of Petroleum Explorationists(NAPE) to imbibe digitization,  innovation and new technologies in Nigeria’s petroleum exploration activities.

The GMD charged the association and other upstream players while delivering his keynote speech at the ongoing NAPE Conference 2019 in Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos on Tuesday.

Noting that Nigeria has recorded significant successes in building its national output to an average of 2 million barrels per day and reserves of 37 billion barrels, the GMD, however, noted that there was no appropriate investment in exploration activities within the same period while the reserves were fast depleting.

In the light of the success recorded in the country’s national output, Kyari tasked NAPE to arrest the trend of depleting reserves by galvanising industry leaders and partners to embrace exploration for more oil and gas reserves.

The GMD added that use of synchronised digital and innovative approaches will accelerate the attainment of the country’s oil reserves to 40 billion barrels and Production target of 3 million barrels per day by 2023.

The Conference titled “Expanding Nigeria’s Petroleum Landscape: Digitalisation, Innovation & Emerging New Technologies” is the largest professional association of petroleum geologists and related disciplines in Nigeria and Africa.
