Kyari, Orji, Sanwo-Olu, Others, Win Zik Prize For Leadership

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina have been named the winners of the year 2020 Zik Prize in Leadership.

The Zik Leadership awards is organized by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC) and it has existed for 25 years.

The recipients of the Zic Prize were announced on September 23, 2021 by political economist, Prof Pat Utomi.

He made the winners known on behalf of the Chairman and members of the Board of Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC) in Lagos.

The pioneer MD/CEO of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Mr. Uche Orji was also a recipient of the prestigious Zik Prize.

Utomi also named the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule; Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora; Director-General and CEO of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) among the winners of the prestigious award.

Others recipients are the Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings Plc, Mr. U.K. Eke; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and former First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Ekaette Akpabio.

Kyari bagged the award following his leadership role and achievements in the state-owned petroleum corporation.

Over the last two years, the NNPC boss has reformed the corporation through transparency as he is the first NNPC GMD to publish the corporation’s financial account in 43 years.

The NNPC boss also declared N287bn profit in 2020 amid a global economy plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the first time it is making profit in 44 years.

The GMD also played a huge role in ensuring the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill-a legislation enacted to overhaul the country’s multi-billion dollar oil industry
