PENGASSAN Begins Nationwide Strike Monday As FG Fails To Meet Demand

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has directed its members to withdraw nationwide services effective 12 midnight on Sunday, November 8 2020 as the Federal government fails to meet their demand.

The Association had earlier announced its plans to shut down oil and gas facilities and distribution of petroleum products across the country over the breach of agreement on the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System to their members by the Federal Government.

Also, the association had vowed to withdraw its services over government’s failure to pay arrears of 22 months owed their members working with Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

The association had issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to urgently address the situation among others.

“The association has taken to picketing the facilities of the company after locking out 64 of their members in total disregard to all the directives of Ministry of Labour and DPR while agreement on the redundancy has is yet to be reached by parties involved.

“We were informed that the Department of Petroleum Resources has threatened to withdraw all the operating licenses it has issued to the BakerHughes due to the company’s non-compliance to regulatory standards in releasing oil and gas workers in Nigeria.”

The association which noted in a letter signed by its general Secretary, Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, said that upon the expiration of the ultimatum, nothing concrete has been done with regard the outstanding issues as enumerated in the letter has advised its members to withdraw nationwide service.

“With view of the above and with the expiration of the ultimatum and with subsequent extension, you are hereby advised to withdraw your services effective 12 midnight on sunday, November 8 2020.

“Please ensure that your Branch member fully comply With this directive while you await further directive”.

“All zonal offices are to monitor compliance and report same to the National Secretariat.”
