An employee of the Oakspring Hotel and Luxury Suites in the Gbagada area of Lagos State has landed himself in trouble after allegedly sending raunchy WhatsApp messages to a female guest of the hotel at midnight.

The female guest, simpliy identified as Ekemini, had taken to social media to call out the hotel’s management after one of its staff – Godfred Boakye – offered to perform oral sex on her.

“I hope this doesn’t come across as rude. But I [would] love to eat your pussy out anytime any day ma’am. PS. I’m just downstairs,” read a screenshot of the WhatsApp message Ekemini allegedly received from Mr. Boakye.

Godfred Boakye, receptionist at Oakspring Hotel and Luxury Suites, Gbagada, Lagos State, allegedly offers oral sex to female guest.

The female guest said she became restless after receiving the message from Boakye, whom she claimed “has access to all the rooms in the hotel.”

She tweeted: “Yesterday, I lodged at @oakspring_hotel and my friend Monica came to stay over with me. Sometime around midnight, I got this strange WhatsApp message from a number. Turns out it’s from the receptionist who checked me in. I’ve been paranoid and couldn’t get sleep all night. This is someone who has access to all the rooms in the hotel. What if I was alone? My friend went down to confront him about the message and he deleted it. @oakspring_hotel, you people better do something about this situation. I’m not about lip service o.”

Ekimini’s tweet caught the attention of Regina Giwa, a lawyer and advocate against rape and gender based violence, who used her platform to amplify the issue and demanded that the management of Oakspring Hotel and Luxury Suites brought the employee in question to book.

Regina shared an apology letter the hotel’s management addressed to Ekemini, where it expressed shock over the “vulgar and suggestive messages” sent to the guest’s personal phone number “by the receptionist on duty on Sunday December 27, 2020.”

The letter partly reads, “First and foremost, on behalf of Mr Godfred Boakye, we would like to apologize deeply for the inconvenience. We are terribly sorry for this appalling occurrence. It’s awful that you had to experience such horrific happening within our premises and from our own staff. We assure you that we are taking the necessary steps to bring him to book and prevent it from happening in the future. Thank you very much for bringing this matter to our attention.

“Mr Godfred Boakye was last seen on our premises about 1:00 am this morning. He also carted away cash from our register. His family members are in intense shock and know nothing of his whereabouts. We are currently having issues logging into our twitter account hence the delayed response. We have reported the incidence to the proper authorities and he is currently being traced,” it said.

But Regina, whose Instagram profile says she’s a lawyer and feminist, slammed the hotel’s management for describing Ekemini’s experience with the male employee as an “inconvenience” instead of calling it “sexual harassment”.

The lawyer noted that Boakye’s action was punishable by imprisonment of three years under the criminal law of Lagos State.

She said, “Until you provide the whereabouts and update us on the measures the authorities have taken against your staff Mr. Godfred Boakye we will not regard your management and organization!”
