Lagos Orders Shutdown Of Dowen College Over Pupil’s Death

The Lagos State Government has ordered indefinite closure of Dowen College following the death of one of the school’s students, Sylvester Oromoni.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, of the Lagos State Ministry of Education.

“The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of the school.

“Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo announced the closure after a meeting with the School Management and Staff.

“The Commissioner called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident”, the statement said.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that various celebrities reacted to the issue and called for the closure of the school after Sylvester’s death.

The tragedy, which is currently trending on social media, came to light after the cousin of the deceased @perrisonoromoni on Twitter posted pictures announcing that he had died after being bullied and “beaten to death at a school that cost of 1 million naira”.

The hospital where the student reportedly died however denied any bullying, alleging in a statement that preliminary investigations showed that there was no bullying or any form of attack on the deceased.
