The survey, released on Wednesday, scores cities on five broad categories: stability; healthcare; culture and environment; education and infrastructure.

The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked 140 cities as part of the ranking.

According to the ranking, Lagos ranks second behind Damascus and ahead of Tripoli and Dhaka.

Once again, the Australian city of Melbourne remained top on the list of the World’s Most Livable city for the seventh year running.

Melbourne was ranked slightly ahead of the capital city of Austria, Vienna.

Canadian trio of Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary sit on the list’s third, fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Overall, Canada and Australia each have three cities in the top ten spots on the list.
The study noted that overall, the world has seen a decline in stability due to the increase in terror-related incidents world-wide.

It said increased diplomatic tensions, from Russia and the Ukraine to North Korea’s nuclear threat and Iran’s relationship with its neighbours, was leading to declining stability scores around the world.
The United States, London, Paris and Tokyo, also lost points.

“The impact of declining stability is most apparent when a five-year view of the global average scores is taken,” the report says.

“Overall, the global average liveability score has fallen by 0.8% to 74.8% over the past five years. Weakening stability has been a key factor in driving this decrease. The average global stability score has fallen by 2% over the past five years, from 73.4% in 2012 to 71.4% now.”
