Lagos Says Private, Public Schools To Remain Closed Amid Pressure To Reopen
Lagos State Government has said that all private and public schools operating in its environs will remain shut to protect pupils from the spread of COVID-19.
Schools operating in the state and across the country had been temporarily closed to contain the spread of the virus.
Following the closure, the government organised free distance teachings on various media, especially radio and television stations in the state, while some school proprietors were planning to commence the third-term academic session amid the pandemic.
Addressing the issue,the state Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, urged the agitating proprietors to abandon the plans as she urged them to promote the distance learning initiative of the state.
The state reiterated commitment to improve its distance learning programmes, while it expressed satisfaction over student’s compliance to free distance learning initiative.
The Commissioner added that some secondary schools operating in the state had commenced online teaching to engage their students with discounted tuition fees as others were charging full tuition rates.
She said, “In view of the aforementioned, we ask that schools consult extensively with parents and find a win-win solution that will be acceptable to all stakeholders.”
