Lagos To Seal 195 Estates Without Layout Approval

The Lagos State government has said that it will seal estates that do not have layout approval.

This was disclosed in a public notice dated 17 February, which stated that the state government is determined to curb unauthorised estate developments and deviation from approval plans.

The state said the move was necessary to ‘check the proliferation of slums and the attendant environmental degradation.”

The government further warned that the owners of the blacklisted estates and “others without layout approval are hereby directed to submit necessary documents to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical and Urban Development not later than 21 days from this publication, for the processing of their layout approvals.”

The statement noted the move by the state government was to transform Lagos to a “functional, orderly, well organised and resilient smart city.”

Similarly, the state had in January banned all forms of commercial motorcycles (okada) and tricycles (keke) from the state’s major highways.
