Lagos Transporters To Reject Passengers Not Wearing Face Masks

Commercial drivers in Lagos have been directed not to carry passengers who are not putting on face masks, as part of measures geared towards curbing covid-19.

The directive was issued in a statement by the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo).

“All passengers MUST put on their face mask; failure to use it, such passenger should not be allowed into their vehicles,” he stated.

Akinsanya said that commercial vehicles are also to operate between 8am to 7pm, adding that anyone who violates the schedule would be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

He also said that in order to avoid overcrowding, only motor park chairmen and few workers would be allowed in the motor parks.

He also urged all members of the Tricycle Owners and Operator’s Association of Nigeria “TOOAN”(Maruwa operators) to abide by the Lagos State government’s directive to carry two passengers at a time.

“Drivers and their bus conductors are to ensure the practice of social distancing by operating at 60 per cent loading capacity,” he added.

Furthermore, he urged residents to comply with every directive from government in the interest of the state.

“Let us all support the efforts of the State government in fighting this pandemic by adhering strictly to the above guidelines and many more that had been given by the authorities,” he said.
