Las Vegas Shooting: Trump Addresses Nation, Says Attack An Act Of ‘Pure Evil’

United States President, Donald Trump has condemned a mass shooting in the city of Las Vegas after a gunman killed more than 50 people and injured 400 others.

The gunman, named as 64-year-old local resident Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel towards an open-air music festival.

The attack is the worst mass shooting in recent US history.

Recating from the White House on Monday, Trump described the attack as an “act of pure evil” and said the nation was “joined together in sadness, shock and grief”.

He said the country would remain bonded in unity in the face of the latest act of senseless violence.

The President said he will visit the city to meet with families of victims and first responders.

Trump also announced that he has ordered the American flag be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the shooting.

“Melania and I are praying for every American who has been hurt, wounded or lost the ones they love so dearly in this terrible, terrible attack,” President Trump said.

“We pray for the entire nation to find unity and peace. And we pray for the day when evil is vanished and the innocent are safe from hatred and from fear.

“In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one and it always has. we call upon the bonds that unite us. our faith, our family and our shared values.

“We call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community and the comfort of our common humanity. Our unity cannot be shattered by evil. Our bonds cannot be broken by violence. And though we feel such great anger at the senseless murder of citizens, it is our love that defines us today and always will forever.”

Trump is still scheduled to travel to Puerto Rico on Tuesday to survey the damage from Hurricane Maria.
