LASEMA Blames Railway Terminus Fire Outbreak on Power Surge

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has blamed the Sunday evening fire outbreak at the Iddo Terminus of the Nigeria Railway Corporation on power surge.

It was gathered that there was fire outbreak at the Iddo Terminus of the NRC on Sunday evening but the cause was not known then.
However, the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a series of tweets on the Twitter handle of the agency said the fire was caused by power surge.

He stated that the fire which started from a shanty building spread to a warehouse where combustible materials were stored.

He said responders were still battling to completely put out the fire although it had been contained

He said, “At 6:35pm on Sunday, February 14 the agency’s response team and fire unit were activated to a fire outbreak at Iddo Terminal, Lagos Island.

“On arrival of the team, it was discovered that the fire outbreak resulted from a power surge in a shanty building, spreading to a warehouse containing items like+ torchlights, batteries, lighters and other combustibles at the terminal.

“Till this morning, efforts are still ongoing by responders to curtail the fire from spreading to buildings.

“Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries have been recorded. LRT, LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, Julius Berger Fire Unit, and the Nigeria Police Force are the responders at the incident scene. The fire has been contained; however, the operation is still ongoing to completely put out the fire.”
