Lassa Fever: Confusion In Osun Hospital As Patient Flees

The people of Osun state were left perplexed after one of the patients’ undergoing treatment for Lassa fever absconded from the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) in Ile-Ife.

According to Daily Trust, medical doctors and health workers on Monday warned their colleagues who were to resume duty in the morning to be vigilant and not come in contact with the fleeing patient.

However, the health workers warned that it would be dangerous if she comes into contact with people.moment.

Lassa fever is a viral haemorrhagic fever belonging to the same family as the Ebola and Marburg viruses but much less deadly.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its recent data reported 195 confirmed cases and 29 deaths in 11 states as at 24th of January 2020.

Meanwhile, the disease claimed more than 160 lives in Nigeria in 2019.
