Lawan Disagress with Minister of Niger Delta Orders New Board To Take Over NDDC

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan appears not to be on the same page with the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, on how the affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)  should be run.

Lawan on Tuesday advised the newly confirmed board members of the Commission to take over the affairs of the agency immediately.

This followed the upper chambers confirmation of all but one of the sixteen names sent into the NDDC board by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that despite the appointment of a substantive board by President Muhammadu  Buhari, Akpabio had set up a six months Interim management committee to oversee a forensic audit of the NDDC.

But the senate president has directed that the new NDDC board members take over the dealings of the agency immediately from the interim committee led by Joy Ghene Nuieh as Acting Managing Director.

According to Lawan, the law setting up the agency does not recognise any interim arrangement once a board is in place.
