Nigerian soldiers were said to have opened fire on the protesters who were campaigning for the #ENDSARS in different parts of the state.

The protests, which have been going on for over 11 days, continued on Tuesday night against the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state by Sanwo-Olu.

Though, there is no official report as to the number of those killed, some accounts claimed that over 40 persons were killed.

He regretted that: “Yesterday’s events were no doubt some of the darkest gradients of our history as a State and as a people. As you are perhaps aware, I have been engaging the #EndSARS protesters since Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October 2020 respectively.”

The governor said three of the protesters injured in the incident had been discharged, adding that additional three or four would also be discharged soon.

He said: “In the sensitive mood, in the mood of the nation at this time, I have directed that we have an immediate suspension of all state activities for the next three days, except those that are connected with the governance of security in the state and management of the current issue.

“I have also directed that at all public buildings we can reach we should lower the flag for the next three days, as a mark of respect and solidarity for the protest.”

He expressed optimism that the country would be better again and apologised for the unfortunate incident.

He also appealed to the protesters to give peace a chance.
