Sane was excluded from the final 23-man squad alongside Bayer Leverkusen pair Bernd Leno and Jonathan Tah and Freiburg striker Nils Petersen.

The 22-year-old’s omission from the reigning champions world cup squad comes as a major shock, as he is coming off the back of an impressive season at club level which saw him collect a Premier League and Carabao Cup double, as he also contributed 14 goals to City’s cause during a record-breaking campaign while also providing 17 assists across England’s top-flight league and the Champions League.
