Lightning Kills Two In Niger State

Lightning killed two persons and injured one at Pogo community in Paikoro local government area of Niger State.

The incident happened around 8 pm on Friday 23 February 2018 during a heavy rainfall that was accompanied by thunder and lightning, killing Aliyu Salihu (25) and Abbas (13). Further investigations reveal that a man named Abdullahi was also injured by the lightning.

Late Aliyu’s father said that the victims were harvesting mangoes when thunder and lightning suddenly enveloped the community as it rained.

“It was like an electric sparks and a heavy thunderstorm which shook the entire community.”

“People were screaming in front of my house and when I rushed out I saw three figures lying under the mango tree,” he said.

Aliyu and Abbas had died on the spot while Abdullahi was injured.

Aliyu father showed the news agency the exact spot where the victims died during the thunder strike.

Aliyu’s father described the event as a very devastating one. He said Aliyu is his eldest son and the family was just pressuring him to get married before his untimely death.
