Lingering Fuel Scarcity: Nigerians React

Some Nigerians have said that the cause of the prolonged fuel scarcity is hard to understand, stating that it is really getting out of hand.

According to them, the internet has been awash with several news on how soon the fuel crisis will end, but they are yet to see the actualisation.

Chijioke Ike from Onitsha, Anambra State who spoke to THE WHISTLER said that initially, the Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu promised ending the scarcity in May but finally moved it to April 7th which is tomorrow but there are still no signs of the fulfillment of that promise.

He said, “it’s not now an issue of politics or tribe, its shows how each and every of our leaders are corrupt, insensitive, selfish, and outdated.

“We are so lazy in Nigeria that we cannot refine our own oil, we export crude oil, then we go back to import crude at a higher rate.

“Some of those refineries abroad are even owed by Nigerians, even if it means pending all these worthless white elephant project and focus on refineries, it will help Nigerians.

“At this point that the price of crude is dropping in the international market, if we are able to fix our refineries to work at full capacity, we will not only have fuel, we will also have it at about N40 per liter.

Another Nigerian, Emeka Ojinmah said, “it’s increasing the cost of living, the prices of things are going up, it’s also inconveniencing having to queue for long hours and not getting fuel at the end of the day.

A Nigerian who simply identified himself as Ayo said “well, it’s really disturbing, fuel queues have refused to get short, interestingly gets longer at night. The macro economy as a whole is in shambles and the fuel issue constitutes just a part.”

Also speaking, Oreva Akuidolo said that “The current fuel scarcity as far as I’m concerned is the most dreadful fuel scarcity ever, there seems to be no sign of improvement and I’m not surprised about the government’s approach to it.

“Its more crazy here in Lagos, the queues have blocked the major roads, hence restricting movements and has made a lot of things too slow, increase in traffic robbery and a lot of discomforts.

“it’s obvious the current administration is being very insensitive and going against the promises they made during their presidential campaign,” he added.

Nigerians, therefore, called on President Muhammadu Buhari , the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other related sectors to take the appropriate precaution and ensure that the fuel queues ends tomorrow as promised.
