‘Love For Dollars’ – Nigerians Attack Oby Ezekwesili For Attending World Economic Forum In South Africa

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has come under attack for attending the ongoing World Economic Forum on Africa in South Africa despite the Nigerian Government’s boycott of the event over recent xenophobic attacks on its citizens in the country.

Nigeria, alongside African countries like Rwanda, Malawi and DR Congo, boycotted the two-day summit holding in Cape Town following the recent wave of anti-foreigner violence in South Africa.

Ezkwesili earned heavy criticisms from Nigerians after photos of her attending the summit surfaced on social media.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s new media aide, Bashir Ahmad, who was among those to first criticize the former presidential candidate, said he was “Surprised to see some Nigerian experts in everything governance who spend most of their time lecturing the Government on empathy and the art of prioritizing national interest over individual benefits, (but) still went ahead to attend the summit.”

Some of the critics claimed that she could not afford to boycott the event because of “her love for dollars”.

Meanwhile, Ezekwesili, who was a panelist at the summit, slammed African politicians for allegedly being responsible for the “miserable situation that is not worthy of the young people that hold them responsible for their fate.”
