Luka Modric Wins UEFA Player Of The Year

Real Madrid’s Luka Modric was named UEFA Men’ Plyer of the Year for the 2017/18 season, ahead of his former team mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool Forward Mohamed Salah, at the star-studded event held in the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco.

13-time European champions, Madrid swept the individual positional prizes too, with goalkeeper Keylor Navas picking up goalkeeper of the year, Captain Sergio Ramos named defender of the year and Modric, who received the overall prize from UEFA President Alexander Ceferin.

“UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Luka Modrić has also retained his UEFA Champions League Midfielder of the Season crown.

“Modrić picked up this latest accolade on stage in Monaco during the 2018/19 group stage draw. It seals a memorable time for the 32-year-old, who has enjoyed an especially productive last few months. Already a newly crowned European champion with Real Madrid, in July he collected the FIFA Golden Ball for best player at this summer’s World Cup, having helped Croatia to their first ever final,” UEFA wrote on its official website.

During the 2017/2018 season, the 32-year-old Croatian won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. He also captained the Croatia side that reached the 2018 World Cup final in Russia.

Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the award for forward of the year for his part in Real Madrid’s third consecutive Champions League title.
