Major Stocks Drop In Reaction To Trump’s Covid-19 Positive Status

Stocks across the globe have reacted negatively to news that United President, Donald Trump and wife, Melania Trump, tested positive for Covid- 19.

THE WHISTLER had quoted Trump announcing, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!.” 

Also Melania tweeted, “feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements.”

Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, in a statement said the president would continue in his duties as president while in isolation.

Coupled with the uncertainties  surrounding the US November Presidential election,  the  S&P 500 Futures and Dow Jones Futures dropped 1.2 per cent and Nasdaq futures slumped by 1.6 per cent.

Japan’s Nikkei plunged by 0.6 per cent despite earlier gains.

Australia’s ASX 200 dipped by 1.4 per cent during the session, while  in Europe, the FTSE 100 opened lower at 1.1 per cent.

Also the German DAX dipped 1.4 per cent , while in France the CAC 40 fell by 1.3 per cent.

China also got her share of the news as the Shanghai Composite closed down 0.2 per cent , while  the Shenzhen Component traded  flat.

Meanwhile only China’s Hong Kong Hang Seng rose 0.8 per cent following the news.
