Man Arrested For Using Fake Credit Card To Buy Goods From Canada

The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command, Lagos, has arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly using fake credit card details to purchase goods from Canada valued at $16,000 CAD.

The suspect, identified as Moshood Olayinka, was arrested following a complaint received on December 4, 2025, by the NAHCO Airport Police Division concerning a shipment originating from Canada and destined for Lagos.

A statement on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Mohammed Adeola, said investigations revealed that Olayinka fraudulently procured the goods from Duplicom Business Products Ltd., Canada, using counterfeit credit card details.

The consignment comprised 12 NEC projectors and 12 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED Plus), with a total value of $16,000 CAD, also estimated at N17,032,160.

However, only $4,000 CAD was successfully processed before the transaction was flagged, after the items had already been released to a Canada-based shipping company for onward delivery to Nigeria.

Further findings showed that the suspect allegedly forged an invoice presented to the shipping company in an attempt to legitimise the transaction.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a discreet and intelligence-driven investigation.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command tracked and arrested the suspect, who reportedly admitted his involvement in the fraud.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the possible involvement of accomplices and to recover all assets linked to the fraudulent activity. Arrangements are also being made to return the goods to Canada after investigations are concluded and the suspect is arraigned in court.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, Mnips, PhD, immediately ordered a discreet, intelligence-driven, and comprehensive investigation.

“Subsequent intelligence gathering and proactive policing efforts established that the suspect not only used counterfeit credit cards to facilitate the purchase but also forged an invoice presented to the shipping company to legitimize the fraudulent transaction.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Airport Command successfully tracked and arrested the suspect, who has since revealed his involvement in the crime. Investigations are ongoing to determine the possible involvement of accomplices and to recover all assets connected to the fraudulent activity.

“Efforts are also in place to ship the goods back to Canada once investigation concludes and suspect arraigned in court accordingly,” the statement read.

Reaffirming the Command’s stance against criminal activities within the aviation sector, Ogunbode said the Airport Police Command remains committed to deploying intelligence-led policing strategies to protect Nigeria’s airports, international trade channels, and the travelling public.
