Man Dies While Proposing To His Girlfriend Underwater During Vacation

A man’s girlfriend has taken to Facebook to mourn him after he passed away while attempting to propose marriage to her underwater during their vacation at the Pemba Island in Tanzania.

Steven Weber Jr., an American citizen, drowned while holding a handwritten note sealed in a transparent plastic bag asking his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, to marry him.

“I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But… Everything I love about you I love more every day,” Weber’s message partly read.

“Will you please be my wife. Marry me???” read the message he held to the glass of a diving tank.

They were vacationing in a wooden cabin with their bedroom submerged beneath the ocean surface at the Manta Resort when the tragic incident happened.

In her tribute on Facebook, the deceased’s girlfriend, Antoine said: “You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, ‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!’.

“We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day of our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable,” Antoine continued.

“I will try to take solace in the fact that we enjoyed the most amazing bucket list experiences these past few days, and that we both were so happy and absolutely giddy with excitement in our final moments together.”

Antoine added, “I will find you and marry you in the next lifetime, and the next, and the next, and the next… I love you so much, and I always will.”

Confirming the sad incident and offering the management’s condolences on Saturday, the Chief Executive Officer of Manta Resort, Mathew Saus, said: “Our sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend, families and friends impacted by this tragic accident.” Saus said local authorities were investigating the cause of Weber’s death.
