Man Threatens Suicide Over Loss Of 2000 Yam Tubers

Depression seems to have taken its toll on one Acho Valentine Angel as he reportedly threatened to take his own life after loosing 2010 tubers of yam in a truck accident.

In a suicide note sent to popular Benue humanitarian, Ukan Kurugh, which the latter posted on his facebook wall on Sunday, Angel noted that he was depressed and tired of the world following the accident as his goods (yams), which he was conveying to his customers in Port Harcout, Rivers State were destroyed.

Part of Kurugh’s post reads:
“Please anybody who knows one Acho Valentine Angel-ruvezy Should call him on 08159026167 immediately else he has threatened to commit suicide, please read the full text he sent to my inbox.”

The suicide note reads: “Am really passing through depression and tired of this world. Let me be frank with you,I almost killed myself last night when a truck conveying my goods (yams) to Port-Harcourt had an accident in Aba.

“I loaded 2010 tubers of yams on that truck. I only recovered 812 tubers.

“What pains me is, the yams were order from my customers which they paid for me to buy and send, I now have to pay them back.

“Incase you don’t see me again, just know I don’t have money to pay for the goods and am gone,” the suicide note concluded.

A check on the post’s comments section reveals torrents of reactions from members of the public as individuals called on the young man to apply restraint, while others pledged to launch a fundraising campaign for him to cover the lose.

When THE WHISTLER contacted him to confirm the report, Angel sounded very down, adding that the story was true.

He said although, the 800 tubers eventually recovered from the accident have been collected by one of the buyers, leaving the debt of over 1200 tubers destroyed.

” I am having a major issue with one of the buyers over the accident on how to pay back the money for the destroyed yams. Although, my mum has spoken to him. We are still trying to pacify him to give us time to pay back,” he concluded.
