Manchester City Win Capital One Cup

Manchester City are 2015/2016 Capital One Cup Champions.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side defeated Liverpool 3-1 on penalties, to win their fourth League Cup on Sunday, after the game finished 1-1 on extra-time.

Brazilian midfielder, Fernandinho put The Citizens in front in the 49th minute after shooting past Mignolet from inside the area.

However, Jurgen Klopps men found their way back, thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s 83rd minute strike, which forced the game into extra-time and then penalties.

In the shoot-out, Willy Caballero was Manchester City’s hero, saving three penalties and from Lucas, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana, allowing Yaya Toure to convert the winning penalty.

The result means, Manuel Pellegrini has won three trophies since arriving at Manchester City in June 2013. It also ensures the 62-year old has a trophy to his name in what is his final season at the club, before Pep Guardiola takes over in the summer.

Speaking after the game, the Chilean said: “I was concerned about the amount of chances we missed. After that we played better in extra-time.

“It’s a very important moment, and it’s always very special to win a title at Wembley.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has reached a cup final in each of his last five seasons as a manager, but has lost the last four.

“We feel down but now we have to stand up. Only silly idiots stay on the floor and wait for the next defeat,” the German told news- men after the game.

“We will strike back. We have felt how it is to lose. It is not the best moment but on Monday morning maybe we can change everything.

“We will go on and we will get better. We have to work really hard, carry on and there is light at the end of the tunnel. This important.”

The two sides clash again in the Premier League on Wednesday at Anfield.
