Fred who joined Shakhtar from Inter Milan in 2013, seems to be a suitable reinforcement at the United midfield after Michael Carrick headed into retirement at the end of the 2017/2018 season.
There is also much uncertainty when it comes to the future of Marouane Fellaini, with the 30-year-old Belgian seemingly set for a move elsewhere as his contract runs down.
The addition of Fred will help to plug those holes, with the 25-year-old central midfielder being acquired for both the present and future.
