Many Killed As Gunmen Raid Banks In Kwara

Tragedy befell the city of Offa, Kwara state after gunmen stormed the area in a bank robbery operation on Thursday.

According to reports, not less than 10 people, including, police officials, residents and bank customers, were left dead which was an aftermath of the gunmen who opened fire thus forcing residents and businesses to close up in the Sanni Aba area of the town.

Among those reportedly killed by the robbers was a police officer, who was expected to retire in the next few months, and a pregnant policewoman.

The operation was reported to have lasted for several hours without any resistance from the police or the army.

The hoodlums escaped with an unspecified amount of money carted from the commercial banks after they first blocked roads from both the Ilorin and Osogbo ends. They later made their escape through Igosun area of the town.

The banks allegedly affected by the bandits are Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Eco Bank.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident, adding that details of the incident would be made public upon completion of investigations.
