Maresca Leaves Chelsea After One Win In Seven Matches

Chelsea have announced the departure of Enzo Maresca following a run of one win in seven Premier League matches.

The Italian manager was appointed as Chelsea coach in June 2024 following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

He guided Chelsea to the Europa Conference League trophy and the Club World Cup trophy at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

However, the team has struggled for consistency in recent times, winning just one game out of their last seven matches in the Premier League.

They have also won twice since the impressive 3-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League in November.

There have been reports of disagreements between Maresca and the some members of the ownership group.

Chelsea confirmed Maresca’s departure with a statement on their website on Thursday, six months after he led the club to the Club World Cup trophy.

The statement read: “Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future.”

Maresca managed his last Chelsea match in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday, and he recorded 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 defeats in 92 official games while winning two trophies.
