Mikel Obi Makes Trabzonspor Debut

Former Super Eagles Captain, John Mikel Obi will today make his debut for the Turkish side, Trabzonspor when they play Sparta Prague in the Europa League third round qualifying game.

According to Sports Extra, Obi was among the traveling squad of Trabzonspor to Prague.

The 20-man squad also included fellow international, Anthony Nwakaeme while Ogenyi Onazi could not be part of the party, as he still recuperating from the injury, which has kept him out of the game for eight months.

Recall that Mikel joined Trabzonspor during the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

He signed a two-year contract with an option of a one-year extension.

The midfielder joined as a free agent after seeing off his contract with English Championship side Middlesbrough.

He was part of the Chelsea squad which won the Europa League in the 2012/2013 season.

Trabzonspor will host the second leg of the game at the Medical Park Stadyumu on August 15.

Recall also that Mikel announced his retirement from the Nigerian National Team on July 18 after the conclusion of the AFCON 2019 tournament.
