Military Seals Action Against Hunger Office, Tell Staff To Stay Clear

The Maiduguri Office of an international non-governmental organisation, Action Against Hunger (ACF), has been sealed by Nigerian soldiers.

According to Premium Times, two military trucks were on Thursday sighted packed at the entrance to the office.

It was learnt that workers were chased and asked to stay off the property.

“We really don’t know what is happening but no one is allowed to go near the gate and even the soldiers won’t talk to anyone,” the staff said.

The country director of ACF in Nigeria, Shashwat Saraf, confirmed the invasion saying the organisation is yet to be told why the office was sealed.

“We are actually surprised that our Maiduguri office has been sealed off by soldiers, but we have no idea why and we have not been communicated,” he said.

“So we have been trying to find out; I will say we hope to get more information if there is any confusion before the end of the day. As it is right now, we have no information, though it happened since last night. We will get back to you if we have more information,” Saraf said.

In July, ACF had released a statement saying a convoy of its vehicles on the road to Damasak, in Borno State, was attacked. It said one of the drivers was killed, and the rest of the team were missing.

However, the NGO later confirmed that the six members of staff member were “apparently in a good condition of health”.
