Miriam Onuoha’s Reps Committee On Tertiary Education Grills Banks Over Education Tax
First Bank of Nigeria, Sterling and Keystone Bank on Tuesday appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education funds for quarterly EDT monitoring exercise on education funds.
The Banks are to account for funds collected in the first quarter of 2024 before the committee chaired by Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha.
The Committee had earlier invited Zenith bank, Access Bank, United Bank for Africa plc, Sterling Bank plc, Keystone Bank, FBN Quest Merchant Bank Ltd and First Bank for the exercise, but only three banks appeared before the committee.
However, Guarantee Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, Wema Bank and sent a letter requesting another date.
The House of Representatives Committee on TETfund and other services is saddled with the responsibility to monitor collection and utilisation of tax funds for education.
The meeting is ongoing in the committee’s room as the bosses of the banks are answering questions on education tax.
