Mohammed Salah Stoppage Time Strike Takes Egypt To 2018 World Cup

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah converted a stoppage-time penalty to give Egypt a dramatic 2-1 win over Congo Brazzaville and a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Hector Cuper’s side needed a victory at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria to guarantee qualification from Group E of the CAF qualifiers.

Salah opened the scoring in the 63rd minute on Sunday evening, but his effort was cancelled out by Arnold Bouka Moutou two minutes from the end of regular time.

The Pharaohs were awarded a penalty in stoppage-time and the 25-year-old stepped up and converted from the spot to send the Borg El Arab Stadium into ecstatic celebration.

Salah is currently the top scorer in the CAF qualifiers, with five goals, having scored in all but one of Egypt’s games.

Egypt now have a four-point lead over second=placed Uganda in Group E. Their last appearance at the World Cup came in 1990, when they were drawn against England, the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands.
