Money Laundering: Supreme Court Justice, Sylvester Ngwuta Pleads Not Guilty

Justice Ngwuta was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja, before Justice John Tsoho.

He is among seven judges arrested by operatives of the State Security Service on October 8, after a midnight raid on their homes.

After pleading not guilty to the 15-count charge, the judge’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, prayed the court to admit his client on bail.

In the charges, it was alleged that Ngwuta transferred the total sum of N505m “denominated in naira and US dollars” to a building contractor by the name of Nwamba Linus Chukwuebuka between January and May 2016.

He was also accused of keeping huge sums of money in local and foreign currencies that were alleged to be gains of his unlawful act contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering Act.

Ngwuta was also accused of passport offences in counts eight to 14 of the amended charges
