More Reactions Trail Assassination Of Ex-Defence Chief, Alex Badeh

More Nigerians have reacted to death of Former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Sabundu Badeh.

Badeh died yesterday from gunshot wounds he sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.

Recall that he has been facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over allegations of corruption.

In his reaction, Senate President, Bukola Saraki said Nigeria has suffered a great loss.

He, however, prayed that God grants him eternal rest.

He said, “Nigeria has suffered another great loss with the passing of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.

“My heartfelt prayers go to his family and our Armed Forces at this tragic time. May the Almighty grant him eternal rest. Amin.”

Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara said the news is both saddening and alarming.

“News of the gruesome murder of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, is both saddening and alarming. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, and I hope that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

Shehu Sani on his Twitter Page said if such tragic death could befall Badeh, then it can happen to anyone.

He said, “Alex Badeh; It’s sad and tragic. If it can happen to Alex, it can happen to anyone.

“May his soul Rest In Peace. My condolences to his family.”

Similarly, the former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri said a Panel of Inquiry must investigate the assassination.

He said, “Ex-chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, strong critic of the @MBuhari government, was just assassinated along Abuja-Keffi Rd. This is a man who knew a lot about the inner workings of this government. His death must be investigated. It is too convenient. You may be next.

“Just look at what they did to Alex Badeh! This assassination is too convenient and must be investigated by a Panel of Inquiry. He was a former Chief of Defence Staff entitled to armed guards. Where were those guards?’’

Also speaking, the senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, Ben Murray Bruce condemned the killing.

“Soldiers being killed by terrorists at an alarming rate. Prominent Nigerians are assassinated or kidnapped and killed. Whole states taken over by bandits. What is happening?

On its own part, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said if a former Chief of Defence Staff can be assassinated in such a manner in a democratic rule, what then is the fate of common defenceless Nigerians?

NANS National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor, in a statement in Enugu said, “The attention of the apex students governing body, NANS, has been drawn to the gruesome assassination of Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, a retired four-star flag officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

“NANS, in all totality, condemns the killing and considers this as very unfortunate, disheartening and one that has no doubt once again portrays our beloved country in a negative way and manner in the commity of nations.

“If a former Chief of Defence Staff can be assassinated in such a manner in a democratic rule, what then is the fate of common defenceless Nigerians?

“NANS is calling on security agents across the country to step up security measures as the Yuletide draws nearer, and specifically ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

“On this sad note, NANS is bidding the former Chief of Defence Staff farewell.

“May God grant the Badeh family, government of Adamawa and the Nigerian Air Force the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, we pray that his gentle and rugged soul rest in peace, Amen.’’
