More Trouble For NBA President-Elect As Coalition Kicks Against Result

The National Bar Association (NBA) presidential election has suffered yet another condemnation as the Coalition of Lawyers for Improved NBA and Movement of Lawyers for Total Liberation have protested against the declaration of Mr. Paul Usoro SAN as president.

NBA Secretary, Ashimole Felix, Esq, in a statement said the coalition revoked the election results following NBA failure to perform a full forensic audit before the swearing in of its new executive.

Recall that the chairman of the NBA electoral Committee, Professor Auwalu Yadudu, had on 20th of August announced Usoro as the new president.

Preceding this action, the Eastern Bar Forum disclosed that there were numerous reports of voter’s identity theft, and thousands of voters not being able to vote as their password was not sent to them until after the conclusion of the process.

However, stating the motto of the association as “to promote the rule of law and the rule of law implies that a man cannot be a judge in his own case,” the coalition called on bar leaders to rescue the image of NBA, by auditing the electoral processes before Usoro is sworn in as he would not give a fair judgment if he presides over the audit of the election that brought him to office.

“This report made far-reaching recommendations and we firmly believe that Paul Usoro SAN, who emerged through the irregularities observed by the ECNBA in this report, cannot carry out these recommendations as he who seeks equity, must first do equity and also come with clean hands,” the coalition stated.

According to the group, the audit is important to keep track of the total number of lawyers that voted, which on the other hand will help NBA in assessing why there were voters’ apathy and lack of interest in NBA election and affairs.

The coalition also called on international partners especially McArthur foundation, alongside local partners and the INEC not to allow NBA monitor next year’s General Election, if the current NBA leadership fails to conduct an audit of the votes cast in the just concluded 2018 NBA Election.
