More Troubles For Ibrahim Idris As New IGP Probes ‘N311m Election Fund’ He Disbursed

The troubles of former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, have begun to gather pace as his successor, IGP Adamu Mohammed, is said to have ordered probe into an alleged N311.640 million election fund disbursed under him.

THE WHISTLER had exclusively reported on Thursday that the new IGP, Mr Mohammed, was taking steps aimed at reversing the negative image that the Force earned under the watch of Mr Idris. Our correspondent gathered that part of the moves being taken by the new IGP was the redeployment of officers that worked closely with the former police chief.

There are now reports that Mr Mohammed has now ordered the interrogation of some officers appointed into a committee named ‘Pre-election Threat Analysis & Security Measures’ by Mr Idris.

According to Daily Independent, ex-IGP Idris had written President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2018, requesting N311.640 to aid the police in curbing security threats ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He was quoted to have said in the letter written to the Presidency that, “the committee will monitor the six geo-political zones for 30 days before the elections begin.”

Mr Idris reportedly budgeted N24 million to fuel 80 vehicles in the six geopolitical zones throughout the period and N70 million for the servicing of some waning equipment.

In the alleged budget prepared by the former police boss, senior officers were to get N500, 000 each as allowance, while rank and file were to receive N5, 000 each for the period.

The newspaper added that some officers who comprised the committee were interrogated yesterday.
