Moyes Fired As Manager of Real Sociedad

Former Manchester United and Everton Manager, David Moyes has been sacked as manager of Spanish club, Real Sociedad, a year after he was appointed.

The 52-year old has been replaced by former Celta Vigo and Barcelona B coach Eusebio Sacristan, after signing a contract that will run until 2017.

A statement on the club’s website, which revealed that assistant Manager Billy McKinlay has also been sacked, added that the sack was a joint decision of the board.

The Statement reads: “Real Sociedad have decided to cancel the contract of first team coach David Moyes.

“The club wish to thank him … for all he brought to the club, his professionalism and his dedication in carrying out his duties.”

Moyes, who spent 11 years at Everton before succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, signed a contract to June 2016 and became Sociedad’s fourth British manager.

However, Friday’s 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Las Palmas left Sociedad above the relegation zone only on goal difference with just nine points from their first 11 games, exactly the same situation they were in when Moyes was hired 364 days ago.

The 52-year-old was criticised for his failure to adapt to the Spanish style of play and master the language.

Sociedad will face Sevilla and Champions Barcelona, after the international break.
