Murder Conviction: Court Denies Pistorious Appeal

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius was on Thursday denied leave to appeal his murder conviction.

The ruling, means Pistorius will now be sentenced in April 18.

South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the Constitutional Court found “no prospect of success” in Pistorius’ appeal.

“We can confirm that we received an order from the Registrar of the Constitutional Court to the effect that the leave to appeal is dismissed due to lack of prospects of success.”

Pistorius allegedly murdered Ms Steenkamp in February 2013 after firing four times through a locked toilet door.

He was sentenced to 15 years behind bars after his appeal against murder was rejected by South Africa’s highest court.

The case will now go back to Judge Thokozile Masipa – who cleared the 29-year old of murder in the original case.
