N30m Fraud: Group Calls For Immediate Prosecution Of Hon. Chidi Duru

The National Action against Corruption (NAAC) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately arraign Hon. Chidi Duru over alleged N30 million fraud.

In a statement signed by Comrade Idowu Taylor, NAAC secretary, the anti-corruption group alleged that Hon. Duru issued “dud cheques” to the tune of N30 million as his share capital during the formation of First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL), before he became the vice-chairman.

According to the statement, the group further explained that Duru squandered resources of FGPL through spurious award of contracts for the supply of computers running into millions of naira.

The statement reads in part: “Despite the concerted efforts by stakeholders to safe guard the pension scheme in Nigeria, criminal elements like Hon Chidi Duru former Vice-chairman First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL) are negating it.

“Nze Chidi Duru’s despicable abuse of public trust became very glaring when he issued dud cheques to the tune of N30 million as his share capital during the formation of First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL).

“It is on record that other shareholders of the company, Hon Pat Asadu,Tergu Tsegba and George Ozodinobi are living witnesses to his perfidious theft of the resources of the company through spurious award of contracts for the supply of computers running into millions of naira. Hon Duru has consistently defrauded First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL) using his siblings as fronts.

“We commend the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for nabbing Hon Chidi Duru after he vanished into thin air some time ago. We solicit his immediate arraignment to serve as a deterrent to others. Justice delayed is justice denied.”

Recall that the group recently revealed how Hon. Duru siphoned and mismanaged pension funds entrusted to him while he “held sway as the head of FGPL”.

NACA explained that Duru conspired with one Mrs Joan Mbachu, to divert millions of naira to open a private account with Zenith bank.

They also claimed that he connived with a South African National to defraud the company in the name of foreign investment to steal over N20 million from FGPL under the guise of emoluments.
