N70bn Telecom Interconectivity Indebtedness Obstructing Infrastructure Expansion-NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission has said the N70bn interconnectivity indebtedness by telecom operators in the country is posing a huge challenge to infrastructure expansion.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Garba Danbatta, said this while representing the minister during the maiden edition of the National Dialogue on Telecoms and Information and Communications Technology Sectors in Nigeria.

The event monitored by THE WHISTLER was themed, ‘Harnessing the Digital Resources for the Building of Our National Economy.’

“Interconnectivity indebtedness valued at over N70bn is a big challenge to infrastructure expansion and inimical to healthy competition,” said Danbatta

The Executive Vice Chairman tasked telecom operators to clear the huge interconnect debts for the interest of the industry.

He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s digital economy strategy, adding that the econmy would benefit from the project.

“The telecom and ICT sector stand to gain a lot from the development of our digital economy and the public and private sector need to come on board to maximise the impact on the entire economy,” Danbatta added.

He restated the Federal Government’s commitment to continually advance the digital economy agenda of the country.
