The Spaniard has now equaled Novak Djokovic’s record 28th Masters Title, his 68th victory from 100 finals on the ATP World Tour.
“The victory here confirms that I am better and I am very happy… It’s been a very, very emotional week for me, a very important event,” said the 29-year-old.
“Monte-Carlo is one of the most important places in my career without any doubt. To win again here after three years is so special for me.”

The Victory is the Spaniards first ATP World Tour title since lifting the trophy in Hamburg in August 2015.
Montfils caused Nadal problems in the game, as he consistently defended brilliantly, and his point-clinching shot-making.
Nadal kept up the pressure on the Frenchman, who double-faulted to hand the fifth seed a much contested opening set.
Monfils edged the former world number one is the second set, however, the Spaniard dominated the third and ran out the victor to win the Monte-Carlo for the ninth time, as he prepares for next month’s French Open.
“I had a tough season last year, but I’ve had better preparation this year, even with a tough start to the season,” Nadal said.
“It’s great to win a Masters title again. I hope this week will help me a lot,” he added.
