[UPDATE] NASS Holds Joint Session, Passes Vote Of No Confidence On IGP Idris

The National Assembly, on Tuesday, passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The vote was passed during an emergency meeting held by the upper and lower chambers.

The focus of the meeting was to discuss political tension in the country, speaker of the House of Representative Hon. Yakubu Dogara had said shortly before the meeting kicked off.

Reading out the resolution of the meeting, Senate President Bukola Saraki said the National Assembly will do all in its power to protect the nation’s democracy.

He further said President Muhammadu Buhari will be held accountable for the actions of his appointees.

Recall that the senate and the Inspector General have been at loggerheads after Mr. Idris failed to honour the summons of the Red chamber.

The IGP was invited to brief the lawmakers at plenary on the ordeal of the Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, APC Kogi West, who was subjected in the hands of the Nigeria Police on alleged illegal possession of ammunition.

Recall also that the IGP only recently, was granted permission by President Buhari to arrest Saraki who was named as a person of interest in the Offa robbery case that took place on April 5, 2018.
