NBA Conference: Buhari Calls For Urgent Judicial Reforms

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday called for urgent judicial reforms at the opening of the 60th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Buhari was represented by his Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, according to the VP’ Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.

“So reform is urgent.

“Terribly slow pace of trials in our courts: Why can’t we have time limits for all cases?,” he asked.

The President further said that ‘Stepping Forward’ as the theme of the NBA conference entailed that every stakeholder must accept responsibility for the betterment of the nation.

He also stressed that legal practitioners played a major role in the Nigerian project.

He added that members of the Bar were “crucial to our democracy.”

He called for synergy between the three arms of government at all levels, saying that it would fast-track judicial reforms.

“So we need a partnership of federal government and States and between executive, legislature and judiciary to drive judicial reforms,” he said.

Meanwhile, he called on all category of lawyers to commit to making the nation greater than where it was currently.

“Let us pledge that in the coming years we will work together as one to build a Nigeria that would be the 4th largest population by the next 60 years,” he said.
