NCC Summons MTN Over Caller Ring-back Tones Copyright
The Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) has summoned telecommunications giant, MTN to appear at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, September 28, over allegations of violation of copyright in the musical works of an artiste, Omenuwoma Okson Dovie.
Dovie, also known as Baba2010, is claiming criminal violation involving MTN’s use of his works as caller ring back tones without due permission.
A letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria Communications Limited and signed by NCC’s Director of Prosecution, A. T. Kohol, noted that the agency is vested with the powers to administer and regulate copyright as stipulated under the Copyright Act Cap C28 Laws of the Federation.

The CEO is expected to bring all relevant documents to assist in the criminal investigations.
