NDDC: Harrysong Knocks Youths For Making Jokes Instead Of Protesting Against ‘Corruption’

Nigerian singer Harrisong Okiri, better known as Harrysong, has berated Nigerian youths for making jokes about alleged corruption in the country instead of taking to the streets to protest.

Harrysong said recent allegations of corruption in government agencies should bother the youths rather than amuse them.

The singer, who spoke via his Instagram page on Wednesday, was reacting to video skits by Nigerian internet comedians on the recent drama at the National Assembly where the acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei, collapsed while being asked questions about alleged N40 billion corruption in the agency.

Harrysong said in a video clip: “People, this is not funny. This is not something to laugh about, do comedy skits with or trend with. People are on national TV calling themselves politicians and leaders of Nigeria mentioning huge amount of money they have stolen and are still stealing which ought to have changed this country for the better,”

“The country is in a huge debt. President Muhammadu Buhari is still borrowing, yet people here are still stealing and Nigerians are making skits and laughing about it.

“By now, we are supposed to be on the streets protesting that we don’t want this anymore and clamour for change in the system.”

The singer further said the youths’ failure to hold people in public offices accountable was responsible for the country’s underdevelopment despite its huge potential.

He also called on President Buhari to change his strategies to governance, noting that his administration had allegedly performed below the expectations of Nigerians.

“You’re seeing the reason why we are in this situation. And please Buhari, all your strategies have failed us, please change them,” he added.
