NDLEA Apprehends Major Drug Lord At Ariaria Market, Abia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Tuesday, said one Emmanuel Ogbonna, 32, alleged to be a major distributor of narcotics and a conspirator in the Ariaria market, Aba, Abia State attacks on NDLEA officers, has been apprehended.

In a statement made available to the newsmen, The Abia State Commander of NDLEA, Mr Dele Akingbade, said the anti-narcotics agency also declared another suspected drug kingpin, identified as Luther King, wanted, promising a handsome reward for anyone with useful information on his arrest.

According to the statement, Obonna was caught red-handed, “The command traced and arrested one Emmanuel Ogbonna with 16 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 147kg.

“The drug was concealed inside the boot of his Toyota Camry car with registration number ATN 219 TP, meant for supply to his customers.”

NDLEA, in its preliminary investigation, discovered that the drug dealers were in a hurry to resume illegal drug sales to make up for lost sales following the incident of mob attack on NDLEA officers at a notorious drug area, called Black Kingdom.

Akingbade said, “A team of surveillance officers from the Abia command, based on a tip-off, trailed the suspect to his hotel. After a long wait, the suspect was tracked down in his Toyota Camry car.

“Attempt by the suspect to raise false alarm by driving recklessly within the hotel premises was foiled”.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the agency, Ahmadu Giade assured residents of Aba that the manhunt by NDLEA for drug dealers at the Ariaria market will continue until all culprits are brought to justice.

In his words, “A comprehensive investigation into the Ariaria market drug incident has commenced. Our manhunt for drug barons involved in the incident is already yielding good result.

“My promise is that all drug kingpins shall be arrested, prosecuted and the notorious area, known as Black Kingdom dislodged. The NDLEA is deeply committed to the protection of lives and property.”
