NEMA Commences Evacuation Of IDPs Deported From Cameroon

The National Emergency Management Agency has commenced the evacuation of over 1200 Nigerians deported by Cameroon.

The Nigerians, displaced by Boko Haram insurgency, were left stranded at the Nigeria/Cameroon border in Adamawa state.
Addressing the first batch of 1,200 IDPs at Damare Camp in Yola, NEMA official in charge of camps, Sa’ad Bello, urged them to be responsible and law abiding during their stay in the camp.

Mr. Bello assured them of decent accommodation, food and healthcare during their stay in the camp.
Also, the army officer in charge of security at the camp, Lt F.C Ndukwe, while speaking to the IDPs advised that constituted authorities in the camp should be respected. He said that they should be security conscious and report any strange face and movement among them to the relevant authorities.

Mr. Ndukwe who read the dos and don’ts in the camp, urged them to be their brother’s keeper and also avoid anything that could cause misunderstandings between them.

“If you do what we tell you and abide by the rules I can assure you that you will not have problem during you stay in this camp,” Mr. Ndukwe said.
Many of the IDPs who spoke to journalists narrated their ordeals at the hands of Cameroonian authorities and thanked God for bringing them back to Nigeria safely.

“Nigerian Government and NEMA in particular deserve commendation the way they are handling us with the support of other agencies.
“I didn’t waste much time after arriving this camp before getting a mattress, bucket and food among others; In fact, I am proud to be Nigerian,” an IDP who simply identified himself as Modu said.

Many of the displaced persons are said to hail from Gamboru-Ngala Local Government area of Borno. They arrived Yola on Saturday, where they were lodged for some time before they embarked on a journey to Maiduguri.
