Neymar: La Liga Threatens Legal Action Against PSG

Javier Tebas, La Liga President, has threatened legal against Paris Saint-Germain over what he described as breach of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in the pursuit of Barcelona forward Neymar Jr.

Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Tebas said if UEFA fails to sanction the French side, he would take his complaints to the organisations’ tribunal in Switzerland and Brussels.

Neymar has been a subject of transfer interest from PSG, who are believed to be ready to meet the 25-year-old’s €222m release clause.

Barca remain confident of keeping Neymar – who was involved in a training-ground bust-up with new team-mate Nelson Semedo on Friday.

“We will [make a complaint about PSG] because they infringe UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules and also the European Union’s competition rules,” Tebas said.

“We will make a complaint to UEFA and if they don’t do anything we will take it to the competition tribunals in Switzerland and Brussels. And, from there, we don’t rule out going through the courts in France and Spain.

“It’s not [just to do with Neymar]. We planned [to make the complaint] earlier. If we’ve not done it sooner it’s because we planned to take the problem to UEFA’s people first and I said that to president [Aleksander] Ceferin, but there hasn’t been time.

“What worries me is La Liga can’t just sit around with its arms crossed. It’s not about Barca, it’s about Spanish football. Today it is Barca but tomorrow it could be Real [Madrid], Atletico or another team.”

On Friday, Neymar’s teammate Andres Iniesta urged the Brazilian who he believes is worth more than €300million to remain at the Nou Camp.

“He is worth more than $200m or $300m,” Iniesta told reporters ahead of Saturday’s Clasico clash against Real Madrid at the International Champions Cup.

“His playing style suits us and he can only improve with us.

“We’d rather people weren’t talking about this so much but there’s only way it can end: for Ney to speak,” Neymar told reporters.

“I have always said that he’s one of the best players in the world and I hope he stays at Barca for many more years. That would be great news for the club and for him.

“For me, he is one of the best and my team always wants the best. I have no doubt that we all want him to stay.”
