Ngige Slams INEC As Buhari Performs ‘Woefully’ In Anambra

The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, has flared up over Presidential Muhammadu Buhari’s poor performance in a yet to be announced presidential result from his Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.

While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to announce the result for Anambra state, Ngige has expressed disappointment at President Buhari’s loss to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his local government.

Atiku is said to have polled 17, 039 votes way ahead of President Buhari who reportedly scored a miserly 2, 220 votes in Idemili South LGA.

The minister is said to have argued that Idemili South is reputed to be one of the most populous LGAs in Anambra and couldn’t have recorded 35, 000 accredited voters in the presidential election as announced by Prof Ikechukwu Odoh at INEC’s headquarters in Anambra.

Ngige said, “the local government has the highest number of voters in the state, and it is a surprise that despite having over 100,000 voters, over about 50,000 accredited voters, my party could poll just 2,220 votes.

“There were a lot of irregularities, most of my people could not vote because of problems associated with the card readers. People from my maternal home, Nnobi were calling me and crying that they could not vote for their favourite candidates, yet they produced a huge figure for PDP.

“That was exactly the same thing they did in my local government. The PDP simply shepherded the collation officers to the local government area in Ojoto, where they locked themselves in a hall and came out with this figures.

“We will not accept this election result, I want to tell you (State collation officer) that this result cannot stand. It must be cancelled, no matter what pain will come with it.

Asked if he’ll call still for cancellation of the result if Buhari ends up winning after the final result is announced, the minister said:

“You see, records must be set straight. It cannot be heard of that I produced such number in my own local government. So, even if President Buhari wins the election, I will still go to court, because records must be set straight, else someone will cite this result someday,” Punch quoted the minister as saying.
