#NGTheCandidates: I May Give Corrupt Persons Amnesty – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has hinted on the possibility of him giving corrupt persons amnesty if voted into office.

Speaking during a town hall meeting organised for the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the PDP on Wednesday, Atiku said if granting amnesty to corrupt persons would aid his administration to recover stolen funds, he wouldn’t mind considering it.

At the event titled ‘The Candidates’ in Abuja on Wednesday, the programme’s moderator, Kadariah Ahmed, asked Atiku if corrupt persons would be granted amnesty if he emerges president.

The PDP candidate said, “Why not? I give you an example of Turkey. Turkey gave amnesty and all the monies taken abroad were brought back and the government said when you bring the money back, you don’t need to pay taxes. Invest in manufacturing, technology and real estate.

“And look at Turkey today. It is like any other European country today.”
