NIDCOM Wants Investigation As Nigerian Couple Found Dead At U.S. Home

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), on Sunday, expressed shock over the news of the death of United States based Nigerian medical doctor, Ben Okigbo and his wife, who were found dead at their apartment in Houston, Texas.

NIDCOM stated that the circumstances of their demise (on Friday) was difficult to contain especially for the children they left behind, and urged thorough investigation to unravel cause of the tragedy.

The Commission said it was hopeful that the U.S. city police (Sugar Land) would unravel what caused the incident.

“The news of the death of Dr. Ben Okigbo, a medical doctor in Houston and his wife, Theresa who was a nurse, is most shocking and depressing.

“Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) condoles with the family, particularly the children, who are now orphans, as well as members of the Nigerian diaspora community in the US.

“Dr. Ben Okigbo and his wife, Theresa, were found dead in their Sugar Land, Texas home on Friday morning, according to police.

“NIDCOM commiserates with the Okigbo family and pray unto God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

“NIDCOM will continue to monitor police investigations into the unfortunate incident,” it tweeted.

Meanwhile, KHOU 11 News Houston reports that “Police said on Saturday that their investigation revealed that Benjamin Okigbo strangled Theresa Okigbo to death. He then attempted to kill both of his 21-year-old sons by strangling them before he eventually killed himself by hanging.”

The late couples were reportedly in their 50s.

Investigation is still ongoing.
